SUPERVISOR INITIAL (LOW CATEGORY RFF CAT 2)

 

DURATION: 1 weekfully residential

TRAINEE GROUP: Persons with Fire and Rescue Service duties at Category 2* licensed aerodromes.

 *(persons with similar responsibilities at Special and Category One airports will find this programme very useful and as such are eligible for nomination)

PRE ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS: Previous fire experience, whilst desirable, is not a prerequisite for this programme. The training is of a very physical nature and all students attending must be medically fit to carry out such work.

 The programme may be offered to any persons having:

  • a current Certificate of Competence as a Firefighter (Low Category Aerodrome) or one which has expired within the preceding six months, or
  • a current Record of Competence equivalent to that of a Local Fire Authority role mapped Firefighter
  • the equivalent Ministry of Defence (MOD) standard to that of the role of Firefighter
  • National Vocational Qualification Level 2 Firefighter, Level 3 Operations or its equivalent

AIM: To develop the skills required of those persons in a supervisory capacity for fire and rescue service duties at Lower Category Aerodromes and to provide them with sufficient knowledge of the subject to enable them to carry out basic training at their respective airports.

The structured learning programme will be formally assessed through written and practical assessments. On successful completion of the programme the individual will be issued with an appropriate Certificate of Competence and will possess the level of knowledge, understanding and skills as provided by a structured learning programme. The period of validity of the Certificate of Competence will be 4 years

OBJECTIVES: At the end of this programme the student will be able to:

  • state the requirements of CAP 168 dealing with the provision of Fire and Rescue Services at Low Category Aerodromes.
  • describe the roles and responsibility of a Supervisor in relation to training and compliance with CAP 699.
  • demonstrate competence when applying the appropriate tactics and techniques used when dealing with aircraft accidents/incidents using equipment likely to be found at Category 1 and 2 airports.
  • state the principles of the management and control of media, appliances and equipment including test procedures and record keeping.
  • discuss the lessons learned from aircraft incidents.
