FIREFIGHTER REVALIDATION

 DURATION: 1 week fully residential


DELEGATE GROUP:
This programme is designed for personnel in the role of Firefighter. It concentrates on the core competencies required for the effective deployment of equipment and personnel in order to deal with an aircraft accident/incident.


PRE ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Personnel nominated shall be medically fit in accordance with the standards set by ODPM (relevant national standards for non UK students)

 The programme may be offered to any persons having a current Certificate of Competence as an aerodrome Firefighter, or one which has expired within the preceding six months

AIM: To provide technical and practical training in order to comply with the requirements of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAP 168 – Certificates of Competency) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Document Annex 14 and document 9137-AN/898 Airport Services Manual Part 1, Rescue and Fire fighting

The programme is designed for personnel who have already successfully completed the Firefighter initial programme or equivalent and have consolidated that knowledge with further application in the workplace.

The structured learning programme will be formally assessed through written, oral and practical assessments. On successful completion of the programme, the individual will be issued with an appropriate certificate of competence in core units and will possess the level of knowledge, understanding and skills as provided by a structured learning programme.

The period of validity of the certificate of competence will be 4 years

OBJECTIVES: At the end of this programme the student will be able to:

  • employ the principles of dynamic risk assessment and safe person concept
  • state the primary and secondary media used for firefighting (Review)
  • discuss tactics and techniques using an aircraft accident/incident case study
  • demonstrate competence in application in the use of Fire Service equipment in ‘live’ fire scenarios.
  • demonstrate the appropriate tactics and techniques used when dealing with various simulated aircraft accident/incidents.
