CREW COMMANDER INCIDENT COMMAND INITIAL

 

DURATION: 1 weekfully residential

DELEGATE GROUP:
This programme is designed for personnel with previous Aerodrome Fire Service experience and provides comprehensive instruction covering the role of Crew Commander including:

  • Managing the safety of Others
  • Operational Incident/Sector Command
  • Functional Leadership
  • Operational Communications
  • Effective Decision Making

PRE ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Personnel nominated to attend this course shall:

  • be medically fit in accordance with the standards set by ODPM (relevant national standard for non UK students)
  • be capable of absorbing the course subject matter
  • be currently certified as competent in the Firefighter role.

AIM:

The aim of this structured programme is to provide learning opportunities for personnel who may be required to support the Supervisor (Watch Commander) in effecting command and control at aircraft accidents/incidents.

OBJECTIVES:

The learning opportunities afforded by this SLP are designed to enable students to:

Show leadership skills that relate to Aerodrome Fire Service operation.

  • define the role and responsibility of the Crew Commander within the incident command system.
  • explain their role in managing the safety of others.
  • demonstrate communication skills that effectively support their incident command role.
  • apply decision making principles whilst engaged in a command role during computer simulated scenarios.

The programme is designed for personnel who are currently in a Firefighter role and have demonstrated Leadership potential.

Individuals will be assessed through written questions and observation of performance in a simulated command role.

On successful completion of the programme and the associated assessment process, the individual will be issued with a Certificate of Competence and a record of achievement relating to the relevant areas of CAP 699. The period of validity of the Certificate of Competence is 4 years
