BREATHING APPARATUS INSTRUCTOR COURSE

 

DURATION: 2 weeks fully residential

PRE ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Students nominated to attend this course must:

· Be a certificated, competent Breathing Apparatus (BA) wearer

  • Have experience in the operational use of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
  • Be medically fit to operate BA in all situations
  • Be physically and mentally capable of meeting the requirements of the course
  • Be conversant with procedures set out in Technical Bulletin 1/1997 Breathing Apparatus Command and Control Procedures

AIM:

To provide the elements of instructional techniques to enable competent BA wearers to instruct personnel in the use of BA and to ensure that BA operations are carried out safely to the minimum standards laid down in the Breathing Apparatus Technical Bulletin 1/1997.

OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Instruct to the minimum standards laid down in the Breathing Apparatus Technical Bulletin 1/1997
  • Instruct personnel in the use and limitations of Breathing Apparatus
  • Instruct personnel to don and doff BA in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions
  • Instruct personnel to fully understand the safety procedures when operating SCBA
  • Ensure personnel have worn or can wear SCBA in various conditions which would be encountered within the workplace
  • Plan, brief and execute a practical exercise
  • Carry out a technical presentation
  • If applicable, attain City and Guilds 7300 – Introduction to Trainer Skills
